Canyon Wall Details, Death Valley National Park

This was my first time hiking in this canyon and there was an amazing amount of visual and to my surprise tactile stimulation pretty much everywhere I looked. To beat the heat, (and because I'm a morning person) I got an early start on my hike into this canyon.

When I came upon this interesting section of canyon wall the sun was still low in the sky and hours remained before it would rise above the upper reaches of the canyon walls. Because of this, the softer and warmer light of the early morning really brought out the colors and details of this section of canyon wall.

My geologically untrained eyes found the combinations of color very pleasing. I was also fascinated by the story that the layers, folds and cracks must reveal to the trained eye. So many questions. Humbling - there is so much that I don't know.
