I admit it!
Okay, Okay, Okay. I admit it. I like May-Gray days. There, I said it.
Seriously, I really do like May-Gray days. I especially like making photographs on days like these. I love the moodiness of these conditions. The drama and textures created by the thick layer of the cloud-deck above. Which in turn diffuses the overall lighting of the scene and adds a slight hint of mystery.
Laguna Beach - May-Gray #1
I made this photograph just north of the main beach in Laguna. It was still a half-hour before the official sunrise. The clouds were thick and steel gray. A light drizzle was falling. The ocean was moopy. Some would call it gloomy. I liked it. I found the conditions calming. I framed up this composition and used a 30 second exposure in order to smooth out and add a little pop to the water.
Laguna Beach - May-Gray #2
For this shot, I repositioned myself a little farther out on the rocks and changed the angle of view to include more of the shoreline, buildings and lights.
I can’t wait for the next round of May-Gray!
